Back home on Kodiak after an amazing 3 weeks on the mainland! It was a joy reconnecting with past customers and meeting new ones. Your support truly means the world. I’m restocking the online store soon—sorry for the delay, I got stitches after an unpacking mishap. Ankle surgery is next week, so recovery may affect fall travel, but I’ll still fulfill online and wholesale orders. Do keep an eye on the store for new items! You can find my items in person in Fairbanks at The Roaming Root, Wasilla at Spunky Monkey, and on Kodiak at The Islander Bookstore.

Exploring the nearby trails in the time between events. I love photographing waterfalls. There is something so magical about them. I might have to go back and redo some angles on this one; but it is such a gorgeous waterfall that reminds of the ones that are in western Washington where I grew up. Bear Paw Festival starts July 10th in Eagle River and goes until July 13th. Then I will be headed back to Kodiak.

I recently decided to start designing some of my own charms for ones that I couldn't find "the right one" for. One of my volunteer projects is helping ADF&G with Emperor Geese so of course I had to make an Emperor Goose Charm. And who doesn't love horned puffins? One of the things I really like about these charms is that I drew them based off of photos that I have taken and I'm loving how they turned out. I will be back on the mainland for Seward 4th of July (7/3-7/5) and Bear Paw Festival in Eagle River (7/10-7/13).

The puffins have arrived in Alaska after wintering at sea. This means summer is in full swing. I absolutely love going on wildlife cruises in our skiff and finding ALL the puffins, otters, and other fun critters. Hopefully soon we'll be able to get out for rockfish, pacific cod, and halibut so I can restock my supply of otoliths. I will be at local Kodiak farmers markets on Saturdays with my daughter and a limited supply of items. Then off the Seward for 4th of July and Eagle River for Bear Paw Festival.

Traveling from Kodiak to Homer via the ferry and back this past week. I had a great time at the Alaska Vintage Market up in Palmer this past weekend. So many new faces and a few familiar ones. I’ll be back on Kodiak soon and updating some listings online and preparing for Crab Fest on Kodiak over Memorial Day weekend. In other exciting news I have a small selection of items at Spunky Monkey in Wasilla. It’s a SUPER cute coffee and gift shop featuring Alaskan artists. You should check it out if you’re in the area!

Winter is ending and spring is beginning. Thankfully, we had one perfect morning with just the right kind of snow for preserving snowflakes. After a month of patience, I’m excited to announce that Preserved Alaska Snowflakes are finally in stock! They’ll be available next weekend (May 9–11) at the Palmer Fairgrounds during the Alaska Vintage Market. After the event, I’ll have a limited number available online.

We have had very very little snow this year and good snowflake snow for preservation hasn’t been around at all. This morning was amazing with the beautiful flakes that were slowly drifting down. Since I had yet to collect even one snowflake this year I spent a few hours this morning collecting the gorgeous flakes from my back porch and starting the preservation process. I’ll know if any of these beauties are destined for rings or necklaces in 3-4 weeks. Not all turn out; very few do actually but I love admiring their beauty as I collect them.

This week has been a nice shift into winter, with consistently below-freezing temperatures and a light dusting of snow, finally marking the season's arrival. But also, just enough sunshine and non-windy days for it be pleasant. After a long hiatus to focus on family, it's exciting to be getting back into the creative flow. With the anticipation of "the good snow", especially for those perfect snowflakes to collect and preserve. It’s a busy, reflective time, and these small moments of nature’s beauty are fueling the return to creativity.
